Exploring the depth of palliative care qualifications in our dedicated clinical team
Palliative care is a specialised branch of healthcare focusing on improving the quality of life for patients with life-limiting illness. To deliver this level of care, our Hospice nurses need a deep and varied skill set of medical expertise. Palliative care nurses need a specialist palliative care certification and be experienced to provide psychological and emotional support, spiritual care, pain and symptom management, interdisciplinary teamwork, cultural competence as well as end-of-life care considerations.
Three of our nurses have studied and achieved their post graduate palliative care diplomas this year. This brings to 7 the number of nurses available to our community to provide this advanced level of care in a highly specialised area. Post Grad qualifications mean our nurses have learnt expert assessment and diagnostic skills to be able to work with specialist doctors, general practitioners, the patients and their families to form a care plan best suited for the patient. Our nurses are qualified experts in their field and play leadership roles.
We are proud at Lake Taupo Hospice to have this depth in our dedicated clinical team.
