About the Course
The purpose of this course is to equip caregivers with skills needed to provide palliative care to the people they are caring for. The course explores a number of topics to increase knowledge and understanding of palliative care.
Topics covered include palliative care philosophy, pain and symptom management, communication and support, the last days of life and bereavement.
Designed specifically to meet the needs of caregivers (unregulated care staff) working in all care settings – home care, aged residential care and hospital care, one the strengths of the Palliative Care for Healthcare Assistants Program is that it is only for caregivers, valuing the contribution they make to people, family and whānau care. It is highly interactive and participants are invited and encouraged to join in with the activities and discussions and share their experiences. It is therefore not designed for registered or enrolled nurses. The information shared on this course may also be used to support family carers to help understand palliative care.
This is a free course (morning tea provided)
