Virtual Legends & Community Angels
Lake Taupō Hospice is proud to have been announced as the winner of the Virtual Legend category and a finalist in the Not-for-Profit Community Angels category at the Stella Business Awards 2024 last week. What a fabulous Great Gatsby night it was.
We were thrilled to be recognised for the hard work which has been put into transforming and using our virtual platforms – social media, website and customer relations database to connect with our community. By embracing the digital world, we knew we could enhance the awareness of our services to all in our community, so began a journey of fully transforming our digital presence.
Alongside Kim Manunui from Korio Digital Marketing we developed a detailed marketing strategy, which focused on widening our reach and engaging with the community in the best way for them. Our strategy included, more targeted and planned social media interaction; a website revamp – to make it an easy and comforting experience; and introducing an on-line booking process for our education sessions. An overhaul of our database held on our customer relations platform meant we could send out quarterly newsletters and for advertising our fundraising initiatives to an active audience.
With our vision is “To bring the most unique care experience in the world to our community”. We cannot achieve this without the embracing the virtual world. We are thrilled with the success and engagement it has had. We also cannot achieve our vision without all our community angels – the clinical team, our volunteers and community itself. We were honoured to be finalists in the Community Angels category alongside Taupō’s most giving Not-for-Profit organisations. A huge congratulations to Greening Taupō and the runner up Taupō Family Centre.
On the night, we were thrilled to have two of our nurses Kelly Tait and Rebecca Gregory and two volunteers Michele Frost and Jan Cook at our table. Rebecca Greogry’s grandmother – Peggy Donaldson - was the original Lake Taupō Hospice community angel having started community-based care for people who wanted to die at home in the 1980’s. We are privileged that Rebecca has continued her grandmother’s legacy. Kelly Tait balances family and working life with professional studies and recently became one of our Senior Registered Nurses in palliative care. Michele Frost has given significant volunteer hours to Lake Taupō Hospice assisting us with grant funding applications, patient surveys and event management support. Jan Cook is our longest serving volunteer of 20 years!
“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
